Woman critically injured in Christmas Day 2016 pedestrian crash dies

By AccessWDUN Staff

A young woman left in a coma following a pedestrian accident in North Gwinnett County 15 months ago has died from her injuries.

The accident that left Taylor Hamm, 26, critically injured happened early in the morning on Christmas Day 2016. Hamm had been walking along Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road when she apparently stepped into the path of a vehicle. Hamm was not carrying ID at the time, so it took nearly two days to determine her identity.

The driver who hit Hamm was not charged in the crash, even though Hamm's parents called for charges to be brought.

Atlanta media outlet said the driver did not stop at the scene but continued on to her job at Gwinnett Medical Center - about two miles away - where she called police to report the accident. At the time, media reports indicated the driver was eight months pregnant and was afraid to stop on the darkened street.

The Gwinnett Daily Post reported that funeral services for Hamm will be on Saturday, April 7.
