MULTIMEDIA JOURNALIST
JOB OVERVIEW
Jacobs Media is seeking a talented, creative, technical and highly self-motivated individual to join our team as a multimedia journalist. The ongoing deadlines for a 24-hour news operation makes for an exciting and often demanding workplace environment. We take great pride in the quality of our products online and on the air. LOCATION: Gainesville, Georgia
REPORTS TO: Director of News Operations
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A bachelor’s degree in journalism, mass communication, public relations or related field or previous experience in the field is required.
  • Applicants must possess a keen interest in journalism and the news industry.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours as required by the news department. Could include night and weekend work.
  • Must have a valid U.S. driver’s license.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
  • Must be a self-starter who can work independently and creatively, as well as be well organized and detail oriented. 
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Must have strong computer and technology skills. Knowledge of Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere Pro (or related video editing software) is required.
  • Ability to communicate live on-air or on-screen in a professional manner.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Position is 35-40 hours per week based on a Monday-Friday, 10-a.m.-5 p.m. schedule. The actual working schedule will be flexible and set weekly in conjunction with the Director of News Operations. Some weekend work is likely.
  • Perform all the regular duties of a reporter, including developing stories ideas, reporting and writing, and, where applicable, shooting photographs and video to produce stories for online and radio. Includes using news judgment to find the most appropriate angle for a story.
  • Produce video news stories and other packages, either alone or in conjunction with others, for online by finding appropriate images or sounds, writing introductions and scripting video material. 
  • Record interviews – in person or through telephone or studio links, and sometimes live – for online and radio newscasts.
  • Anchor radio newscasts, as needed.
  • Weekend anchor shift one or two times per month.
  • Update social media sites, as needed or requested.
  • Assist others within the organization when needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.

PART-TIME ANCHOR/REPORTER
JOB OVERVIEW
Jacobs Media is seeking a talented, creative, technical and highly self-motivated individual to join our team as a part-time anchor/reporter.  Schedule is primarily weekends (Saturday and Sunday) 12-16 hours. May include up to 10 additional hours during the week going into the field and reporting stories.
 
LOCATION: Gainesville, Georgia
REPORTS TO: Director of News and Content
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A bachelor’s degree in journalism, broadcasting, mass communication, public relations or related field. Previous experience in a professional newsroom is preferred.
  • Applicants must possess a keen interest in journalism and the news industry.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours as required by the news department. Could include night and weekend work.
  • Must have a valid U.S. driver’s license.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
  • Must be a strong writer with a good on-air delivery.
  • Must have a keen news sense.
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communications skills. Must be able to write news stories in appropriate print/online formats. Knowledge of AP style is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate live on-air or on-screen in a professional manner. Basic knowledge of audio recording and editing software is necessary.
  • Must have strong computer and technology skills. 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Anchor two newscasts and two headline segments per hour. 
  • Report, write and edit new stories for both radio and online. 
  • Rewrite and freshen existing stories. 
  • Post new stories to the website and keep the site updated.  
  • Make sure all three stations remain on the air. 
  • Some live sports producing on occasion is possible.
  • Update social media sites, as needed or requested.
  • Assist others within the organization when needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.
