By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

A Talmo woman was hospitalized after she was reportedly hit by a train in Gainesville Tuesday evening.

Hall County Sheriff's Office Spokeswoman B.J. Williams said Wednesday that deputies were called to the scene near the intersection of Dorsey Street and Industrial Boulevard just before 6 p.m. When they arrived, they found Gina Valeria Alvarez, age 39, suffering what officials called a severe injury to her left leg.

Williams said the investigation showed Alvarez was walking along the tracks when the train approached. The train's engineer said they saw Alvarez and sounded the horn, but she did not move from the tracks and was hit by the right front corner of the train.

Hall County Fire Rescue officials said Alvarez was taken from the scene to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment. She remained hospitalized as of Wednesday afternoon according to the sheriff's office.
