A woman is dead and her fiance was injured when the two were struck by a vehicle while walking on a sidewalk in Forsyth County Friday morning.

Forsyth County Sheriff's Office officials released details on the crash Monday morning. Officials said the couple from Utah were walking on the sidewalk at the intersection of Majors Road and Ronald Reagan Boulevard around 10:00 a.m. when an Acura MDX drove onto the sidewalk, hitting both of them.

The Acura was reportedly driven by a 17-year-old student on his way to school. Investigators say the vehicle went onto the sidewalk while the driver was turning left from Ronald Regan Boulevard onto Majors Road.

The driver failed to make the turn, likely due to speed, according to the sheriff's office.

The woman, Leslie Schwendiman, died from her injuries. Her fiance, Steve Olsen, was hospitalized but is expected to recover according to authorities.

The driver was also injured, but the extent of his injuries has not been released.

The sheriff's office said the couple were in Forsyth County for a wedding. No charges have been formally announced as of Monday morning.
