Banks County Deputy struck by vehicle released from hospital

The Banks County H.E.R.O deputy who was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle Wednesday morning while directing school traffic has been released from the hospital. 

The Banks County Sheriff's Office said Deputy Joe Williams on Wednesday was released from the hospital with minor injuries.

The Georgia State Patrol will be conducting an investigation into the incident.

A Banks County H.E.R.O. Deputy was hospitalized Wednesday morning after he was struck by a vehicle while directing school traffic.

According to a press release from the Banks County Sheriff's Office, a vehicle hit Deputy Joe Williams at about 8:02 a.m. while he was directing school traffic at the intersection of Historic Homer Highway and Georgia Highway 98.

A report from the Georgia State Patrol identified the driver of the vehicle that hit Williams as Francis Small, Jr. of Rabun County. The state patrol said Small indicated he did not see Williams when he was stopped facing east on Ga. 98 and began turning left. The report said Small's vehicle then hit Williams with the front bumper of the vehicle.

The sheriff's office said Williams is stable and alert, but received medical transport and is currently being treated at the hospital for his injuries. The state patrol said the investigation into the accident is ongoing and no charges have been filed at this time.

"Banks County Sheriff's Office is grateful for the outpouring of concerns for Deputy Williams," the press release reads.
