Two arrested following Franklin County home invasion and assaults Sunday morning

Two Toccoa men are facing multiple charges following their arrest by Franklin County law enforcement this past weekend behind their alleged involvement with a violent home invasion early Sunday.

A post on the Franklin County Sheriff's Office's social media page says their 911 officials received a call reporting a home invasion and assault at a residence on Fairview Farms Circle Sunday morning at approximately 4:12 am. Deputies responded to the scene and a victim was located that had been assaulted. The unidentified victim was transported by Franklin County EMS to Sacred Heart Hospital.
 
Investigators were called to the scene. Through the investigation Franklin County authorities said two suspects were identified, arrest warrants were taken for both and the suspects were arrested. 28 -year old Austin King and 40-year old Joel Travis Smith, both from Toccoa, were in custody at the Franklin County Jail on charges of 1st degree burglary, armed robbery, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, false imprisonment and felony home invasion as of last publication.
 
Franklin County Sheriff's Office also added that the case remains open with an ongoing investigation as more arrests and charges are forthcoming. Sheriff Scott Andrews also extended his appreciation to the Stephens County Sheriff's Office for their aid in the investigation.
