Reported escapees from South Carolina lead authorities on chase ending in Franklin County

By Hamilton Keener Anchor / Reporter

Two people were arrested on Tuesday after leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase in a stolen truck that ended in Franklin County.

Georgia State Patrol said troopers from Post 52 in Hartwell were alerted earlier in the day about a stolen blue 2019 Ford F-150 reportedly taken from Spartanburg, South Carolina.

The truck was spotted traveling along GA 77 near the intersection with GA 51.

When a trooper attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver refused to pull over, prompting a pursuit. The chase continued onto GA 17, where law enforcement used a PIT maneuver to bring the truck to a stop.

The driver, Devin Jake Fisher, 33, of Richmond County, SC, and Nicklaus Chase Bevis, 25, of Union County, SC, were arrested.

No injuries were reported, and the suspects were taken to the Franklin County Jail.

During questioning, Bevis reportedly made statements that led authorities to believe that both suspects may have escaped custody from Union County, SC. That part of the investigation is still underway, and additional charges are expected.

The investigation is ongoing.
