Man killed in equipment accident in Gainesville was working for grading company

The Gainesville Fire Department has released additional details after a man was killed Thursday morning during a heavy equipment rollover.

Gainesville Fire Chief Brandon Ellis said the man was working for a private grading company in the area of Thompson Bridge Road and Woodlake Drive and operating machinery made for one person to operate when the machinery turned over. 

The man was trapped under the equipment and later died.

Ellis said the work was being performed at a private residence in the area at the time of the incident just before noon Thursday.

Authorities remain unable to release the victim's name as they attempt to contact the man's family.

 

Original story published Thursday at 8:51 p.m.:

A man was crushed and killed Thursday morning when heavy equipment rolled over on top of him near Thompson Bridge Road in Gainesville.

The Gainesville Fire Department responded at 11:42 a.m. to a call of a man trapped underneath a piece of heavy equipment in the area of Thompson Bridge Road and Woodlake Drive. When crews arrived, they found the man deceased.

The man was apparently operating heavy equipment when it rolled over on top of him and left him trapped.

The coroner’s office was notified, according to a GFD release. There has been no additional information provided by authorities on the incident as they notify the family.
