Lanier Tech Hall Campus road project to begin construction in coming months

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

Lanier Technical College officials say a new road project is set to start construction in the coming months that aims to improve access to the campus from Ga. 365.

The school announced the project on social media Wednesday. The project will create a new road crossing over Ga. 365 just south of the current intersection of Lanier Tech Drive and Y.M.C.A. Drive, connecting those two roads on either side of the highway.

Lanier Tech President Tim McDonald said the new road will be a safety improvement for students and staff.

"This upgrade will ultimately include a flyover bridge, allowing campus ingress and egress without requiring a risky left-hand turn against traffic," McDonald said.

The project will also include the construction of two roundabouts, one at the new road's intersection with Lanier Tech Drive at the main loop road for the campus, and the other at the new road's intersection with Y.M.C.A. Drive on the west side of Ga. 365.

Construction on the project is expected to begin in the coming months and take two years to complete. The school said the campus' entrance sign will have to be removed to allow for utility work around the project. The sign is planned to be re-installed once the project is complete.

Dismantling of the entrance sign is expected to begin in the coming days.
