Gainesville man arrested by GBI in connection with fentanyl overdose death

By AccessWDUN Staff

A Habersham County Grand Jury recently indicted a Gainesville man on charges related to the fentanyl overdose death of Sidney Cantrell, 27.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said its Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office was requested to investigate Sidney’s death by the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office on Jan. 19.

Through the investigation, it was learned that Sidney died of an overdose from fentanyl he allegedly received from Corey Cantrell, 28, of Gainesville. Corey and Sidney are not related.

GBI agents, the Gainesville Police Department and the Hall County Sheriff’s Office arrested Corey at his home in Gainesville on February 12.

Those with information related to drug activity should call GBI ARDEO at (706) 348-7410. Anonymous tips can also be submitted by calling 1-800-597-TIPS(8477), online at https://gbi.georgia.gov/submit-tips-online, or by downloading the See Something, Send Something mobile app.
