The Hall County Planning Commission recommended approval Monday of a revised plan for a proposed new subdivision on Hardy Road near Lake Lanier.
Cook Communities had originally planned to build 11 homes on just over 11 acres of land near Nancy Creek Road, and that request passed the planning commission in April. However, it was tabled by the Hall County Commission after the developers added nine acres to the property and decided to increase the number of homes to 20.
"We talked to the staff and the commissioners and asked them to table it. We redesigned it based on the comments we received," Jane Range, who represented Cook Communities at Monday's meeting, said.
The proposed development would also include a shared dock and a gated entrance. Several residents spoke against the request, with most citing concerns over the safety of the shared dock. Others, like Krystal Miller, said the increased number of lots could create traffic issues.
"We have a lot of people that walk up and down Hardy Road at any given time of the day. I hate to see that endangered," Miller said. "We're not opposed to the 11-house subdivision that was first proposed, but 20 houses is a lot of cars in and out of there. Nancy Creek Road is in pretty bad shape right now as it is."
The proposal is now set to be voted on by the Hall County Commission at its September 8 meeting.
