GoFundMe started for victims of Fourth of July boat explosion on Lanier

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

A GoFundMe has been set up for the victims of a Fourth of July boat explosion that happened on Lake Lanier.

Kedrick Perkins said he and his family were out on the boat near Margaritaville at Lake Lanier Islands Friday to watch fireworks when the explosion happened.

"My fiancé and I moved as swiftly as we could," Perkins said. "It pained me to see her jump into the fire to save our middle son. My poor family sustained second and third-degree burns. My oldest and I had mininal burns. God spared us to bring our family to safety along with the paramedics."

The Hall County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the explosion. As of Tuesday afternoon, officials say the investigation is still ongoing.

As of Tuesday, the GoFundMe has raised $1,500. A link to donate can be found here.
