The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is now reporting that three people were injured when a boat crashed into a dock at Thompson Creek Park on Lake Lanier in Dawson County Sunday.
The report came as part of the DNR's final Fourth of July weekend report on incidents and arrests and Georgia waterways. The report provided more details on the incident, which happened just after 10:00 a.m. Sunday.
"The operator of a Malibu ski boat was attempting to pull his boat up to the courtesy dock when he got stuck on one of the cables securing the dock to the shore," the DNR's report said. "He put the boat in reverse to gett off the cable, then put the boat into forward gear to slow down the reverse momentum. When it was in forward gear, he fell and pushed the throttle completely forward."
DNR officials say the boat then jumped the support cable and landed on the gangway. A man and two juveniles were hit by the boat, but they reportedly only suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment.
It was the sixth boating incident reported in Northeast Georgia over the holiday weekend, and the second on Lake Lanier.
