A man's body was recovered from the Forsyth County side of Lake Lanier Sunday afternoon.
Forsyth County Sheriff's and Fire Department officials, as well as the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, confirmed the fatality Monday morning.
Forsyth County Fire Division Chief Jason Shivers said the body was pulled from the water at a private dock on the lake off of Bamby Road near Lanier Drive just after 2:00 p.m.
"When firefighters arrived, the deceased had been pulled from the water by civilians that knew him and had discovered the incident," Shivers said.
While officials have not yet declared a cause of death, both the DNR and fire officials confirmed that an electrical current was found in the area of water where the body was found.
"Firefighters on board our marine unit did detect an electrical current near the dock using an on-board device known at Shock Alert," Shivers said. "Once a nearby electrical plug powering a boat lift was unplugged and the left deenergized, the current disappeared."
The victim's name has not been released, with officials only identifying him as a 64-year-old man. The man's body has been taken to the Forsyth County Coroner's Office for autopsy.
