Week 12 wrap: Bluff still perfect; Buford takes 2nd straight 8-6A title

Buford repeated as region champions on Friday with a big road win to cap the 2021 Georgia High School Association regular season.

Commerce's bid, however, to repeat as region champs did not fare as well.

The Wolves routed Dacula 42-7 to capture the Region 8-6A crown, while the Tigers fell 35-6 Lincoln County in Lincolnton in a battle for the Region 8-A Public title.

Cherokee Bluff was looking to become the first Hall County-based team to complete a perfect regular season since 2009 when Gainesville last accomplished the feat. And the Bears did just that with a 30-0 win over White County in Cleveland.

Despite a tough 34-28 loss to Apalachee, Jackson County snapped a four-year playoff drought. The Panthers got help from Eastside and Loganville in Region 8-5A.

East Jackson’s bid for its first playoff appearance since 2009 also came to an end in a 24-0 loss to Stephens County in Region 8-3A play.

North Hall and Kevin Rochester ran into a tenacious Dawson County defense in a 28-6 loss in a huge game for second place in Region 7-3A. The Tigers now will play host to a first-round game, while the Trojans will have to hit the road.

Jefferson rebounded from its first loss of the season with a 49-6 drubbing of Madison County at Memorial Stadium. Flowery Branch continued its roll over the past month with a 62-20 win over East Hall.

Lanier Christian claimed the No. 2 seed and a first-round home playoff game in the GAPPS 8-man league routing Fideles Christian 60-6 on the road.

As for teams playing their final game of the season, Lakeview Academy and West Hall both took home wins. Habersham Central, Johnson, East Hall, Gainesville, Lumpkin County, and Towns County all dropped their season finales.
