COAL MOUNTAIN — North Forsyth took advantage of Gainesville's mistakes in a 38-13 win on Friday at Raider Valley.
The Red Elephants (5-5, 2-4 Region 6-7A) fumbled twice and tossed two interceptions. Meanwhile, the Raiders (6-4, 3-3 Region 6-7A) had no issues lighting up the scoreboard in the Region 6-7A finale.
Will Peltz booted a 34-yard field goal with 43 seconds left in the first quarter to break the goose egg on the board. Later in the second quarter, Drew Aucoin broke loose on a 13-yard run to go up, 10-0, with 8:32 left in the half.
The Red Elephants' first score of the game came on a 15-yard pass from Baxter Wright to Jayvion Sims, cutting the lead, 10-7.
But the Raiders found the endzone one more time late in the first half on a 59-yard pass from Aucoin to Logan Curry to go up, 17-7, at the half.
In the second half, Aucoin scored on back-to-back drives -- a four-yard run and a one-yard run -- to extend the lead, 31-7, with 5:09 to go in the third quarter.
Gainesville found some momentum on the ensuing drive when Naim Cheeks sprinted for a 33-yard touchdown. The missed extra point left the score, 31-13.
