Authorities investigating suicide in Lake Lanier drowning

CUMMING - Forsyth County authorities say they're trying to determine whether a woman whose body was found floating in Lake Lanier on Thursday may have committed suicide.

Police say Josefa Doroteao, 51, of Doraville, was said to have been saddened by her son's recent drug arrest and had prescription sleeping pills in a cooler she took to a park on the lake's west bank.

Forsyth County Sheriff's investigator Josh Cox also said Doroteo had been suffering the effects of a stroke she suffered two years ago that had lef her right side partially paralyzed.

A native of the Dominican Republica, Doroteo moved to the Atlanta area around the time of the strok to live with her sister.

Authoroties say a witness saw the woman sitting on a rock at the bank of the lake with her legs in the water earlier Thursday. Another person saw her body floating in the water at about 3:00 p.m.

Authorities are awaiting toxicology reports to determine whether drugs were involved in the death.
