Following the arrest and detention by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) of a metro-Atlanta journalist, some of his charges have been dropped.
According to DeKalb County Jail records, Mario Guevara was granted unsecured judicial release on June 18 after being arrested June 14 on charges of obstructing police and unlawful assembly.
Fox5 Atlanta reported on Wednesday that all of the charges from DeKalb County have been dropped.
He is expected to appear at Stewart Immigration Court in Stewart County on Tuesday.
Guevara, who is known for documenting immigration raids, still faces multiple misdemeanors in Gwinnett County.
AccessWDUN submitted an open records request with the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) regarding the charges of distracted driving, failure to obey a traffic control device, and reckless driving.
The warrants were taken out on June 17 following his filming of an ICE operation.
The warrants came almost a month after the incident, which occurred on May 20 according to GCSO.
The Committee to Protect Journalists has condemned Guevara’s arrest, calling it an erosion of press freedom.
Previously, ICE worked with Guevara’s lawyer to close a case in 2012 ordering his family to leave the country without deporting anyone. Now, his status in the country remains in limbo for the time being.
