Audit planned of Habersham tax office

CLARKESVILLE - Officials in Habersham County have hired a private firm to conduct an audit of the county tax office.

The action was taken on recommendation of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation after $71,900 was unaccounted for in the office.

No charges have been filed. The investigation began last month. Two employees of the office resigned about the time the probe began, but no one has been charged.

No one is saying if the the resignations had anything to do with the missing money.
