A Snellville man was charged with manslaughter for allegedly selling illegal drugs laced with fentanyl that killed a man in Lawrenceville.

Gwinnett County Police Detectives began investigating Emory Clark, 39, on July 31 after GCPD officers responded to an unresponsive man at home on Mill Glenn Court in Lawrenceville.

When officers arrived, they reportedly found Christian Howell, 23, deceased in a bedroom. Officers then found illegal drugs inside of the room. Investigators were able to identify Clark as a suspected narcotics distributor that sold the illegal drugs to Howell through phone data and conducted surveillance, according to a release from the department.

Clark was arrested on Aug. 13. Investigators also served a search warrant of Clark’s home, where they discovered specific narcotic packaging that they believe matched what was found in Howell’s room, as well as a stolen handgun.

Clark was charged with aggravated involuntary manslaughter for a fentanyl overdose death, sale of a schedule II-controlled substance, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and theft by receiving stolen property.

Clark’s manslaughter charge comes from Austin’s Law, which allows officers in Georgia to criminally charge drug dealers and distributors for fentanyl-related deaths. Governor Brian Kemp signed the law in 2024.
