Two suspects have been charged in relation to shoplifting roughly $8,000 worth of merchandise from nine different Mall of Georgia stores.
27-year-old Nakenda Janea Thompson Fevrier of Pooler and 29-year-old Shacarrie Deasia Heyward of Savannah were identified as the suspects by the Gwinnett County Police Department.
On June 22, officers responded to a Dick’s Sporting Goods inside the mall. A store representative called 9-1-1 and reported the two suspects of shoplifting “large quantities” of merchandise.
When confronted by the store representative, they dropped the items and fled on foot, leaving a white sedan behind.
“The car turned out to be a rental vehicle, so that’s probably why they were okay with leaving it there,” Corporal Juan Madiedo said.
Officers obtained a search warrant for the vehicle, resulting in the discovery of six trash bags filled with items from nine different stores in the mall, totalling around $8,000 according to officials.
Officials were able to obtain 54 warrants on the suspects, charging both with five counts of felony theft, nine counts of possession of tools for the commission of a crime, nine counts of loitering, and four counts of misdemeanor shoplifting.
“They (the stores) came by our headquarters and located their items, they went through it and gave us a tally of the value…” Madiedo said. “Ultimately all the items were returned to the different stores.”
Their current whereabouts are unknown. If anyone has any information to share in the case, GCPD says to call their detectives at (770) 513-5300. For those wishing to remain anonymous, tipsters can contact Crime Stoppers at (404) 577-8477 or visit www.stopcrimeATL.com.
