A husband and wife from Buford have drowned near a Destin resort on Tuesday.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office said a bystander was able to use a boogie board to rescue the couple's 26-year-old son.
Witnesses reported seeing the couple and son struggling nearly 75 to 100 yards offshore of 1040 U.S. Highway 98.
Beach safety personnel got the woman out of the water while Destin Beach Safety and an OCSO Marine Unit located the man.
According to the sheriff’s office, lifesaving measures were performed on the couple, now identifed as 57-year old Peter Nguyen and 54-year old Sonia Nguyen, but were unsuccessful.
Investigators say yellow flags were flying at the time, specifying moderate surf or currents.
