GBI adds gang-related charges in Gainesville murder case

By Will Daughtry News Reporter

Two suspects who were allegedly involved in the April 27 murder of a Gwinnett County teen have had charges added by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Gang Task Force.

19-year-old Ja’Quez Jeremiah Sims of Gainesville and 18-year-old Quaran Jamir Jackson of Gillsville were arrested in connection to the murder of 16-year-old Jaishawn Overstreet.

Now, Sims and Jackson face multiple felony counts of participation in criminal street gang activity according to a Gainesville Police Department Facebook post.

Sims was arrested in May on charges of malice murder, felony murder, and aggravated assault.

Jackson was arrested earlier this month on charges of felony murder, aggravated assault, and tampering with evidence.

Sims got three charges of participation in a criminal street gang and Jackson received two. Both are being held in Hall County Jail without bond.
