The Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrested a former Habersham County attorney Monday on multiple counts of forgery and theft by deception.
A press release from the GBI reported that the Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office requested the agency investigate a forgery case involving Paul Jason York, 46, of Cornelia in February.
During the investigation, it was discovered that York allegedly forged and created fraudulent court documents. York was subsequently arrested and booked into the Habersham County Jail on August 4.
York faces the following charges:
- 10 counts of first-degree forgery
- 2 counts of unauthorized practice of law
- 4 counts of identity fraud
- 2 counts of theft by deception.
The investigation is ongoing. The GBI said once the investigation is complete, the case will be turned over to the Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
