Primary election recap

Tuesday's primary elections saw several candidates win their races outright, while some set up battles for November's general election and others are headed for primary runoffs in four weeks.

Here is a breakdown of Tuesday's results:

United States Congressional races:

  • U.S. House District 10: Incumbent Republican Mike Collins will face Democrat Alexandra "Lexy" Doherty in November. Collins ran unopposed in the Republican primary, while Doherty defeated Fore in the Democratic primary with 59% of the vote.

Georgia state legislative races:

  • State Senate District 7: Incumbent Nabhilah Islam Parkes ran uncontested in the Democrat primary. J. Gregory Howard will face Fred Clayton in a Republican primary runoff on June 18.
  • State Senate District 47: Incumbent Frank Ginn defeated Republican challenger Ross Harvin with 62.1% of the vote. Ginn will face Democrat Conolus Scott in November.
  • State Senate District 49: Drew Echols defeated Josh Clark with 52.8% of the vote in the Republican primary. Echols will take the seat, as no Democrat qualified.
  • State House District 8: Incumbent Stan Gunter defeated Republican challenger Dick Mills with 73.7% of the vote. He will face Democrat Charlotte Sleczkowski in November.
  • State House District 25: Incumbent Todd Jones defeated Republican challenger Cary Lucas with 75.7% of the vote. He will face Democrat Elaine Padgett in November.
  • State House District 30: Incumbent Derrick McCollum defeated Republican challenger Norine Cantor with 84.2% of the vote. He will face Democrat Kim Floria in November.
  • State House District 100: Incumbent David Clark defeated Republican challenger Michael Day with 77.9% of the vote. He will face Democrat Jennifer Ambler in November.

Hall County:

Gwinnett County:

  • County Commission Chair: Incumbent Nicole Hendrickson won her Democratic primary with 71.4% of the vote. She will face John Sabic in November, who won the Republican primary with 65.2% of that vote.
  • County Commission District 3: Incumbent Jasper Watkins III won the Democratic primary with 56.2% of the vote. He will face Republican Bobby Howard in November.
  • Sheriff: Incumbent Keybo Taylor won his Democratic primary, winning 67.7% of the vote. He will face Mike Baker in November, who won the Republican primary with 58.4% of the vote.
  • Board of Education District 1: Incumbent Karen Mulzac Watkins will face Rachel Stone in a runoff. Watkins received 41.8% of the vote, with Stone receiving 30.5%.
  • Board of Education District 3: Steve Gasper will face Shana V. White in a runoff. Gasper received 36.1% of the vote, with White receiving 21.3%.
  • Board of Education District 5: Incumbent Tarece Johnson-Morgan won re-election outright with 53.79% of the vote over Jacquelyn Evenezer-Gold and Patrina King.
  • Superior Court Judge: Kimberly Gallant defeated Rodney Harris in one judgeship race with 61.4% of the vote. The other judgeship race is heading to a runoff between Regina Matthews and Tuwanda Rush Williams.
  • State Court Judge: Incumbent Shawn Bratton defeated Ramona Toole Sakhanokho with 72.9% of the vote.
  • Mulberry cityhood vote: Residents approved the incorporation of the city with 56.9% of the vote.

Forsyth County:

  • County Commission District 2: Incumbent Alfred John won re-election, taking 67% of the vote in the Republican primary over Brian R. Tam.
  • County Commission District 4: Mendy Moore won the Republican primary over Brian Estes with 54.4% of the vote. She will face Democrat Kat Jewell in November.
  • County Commission District 5: Incumbent Laura Semanson won her Republican primary over Sunnie K. Agarwal with 69.5% of the vote. She will face Democrat Cary S. Green in November.
  • County Board of Education District 2: Trisha Hoyes defeated incumbent Lindsey Adams in the Republican primary with 60.6% of the vote. Hoyes will face Democrat Jessica Fleming in November.
  • County Board of Education District 3: Dorian Usherwood defeated incumbent Tom Cleveland in the Republican primary with 64.7% of the vote. Usherwood will face Democrat Debbie Stair in November.
  • County Board of Education District 4: Republican Chris Grimes will face Democrat Claudia J. Wood in November after both won uncontested primaries Tuesday.

Jackson County:

  • County Commission Chair: Marty Clark defeated Chad Bingham with 56.1% of the vote.
  • Sheriff: Kevin McCook won the four-way Republican primary with 64.3% of the vote. He will win the election, as no Democrat qualified.
  • Magistrate Court Judge: Andy Garrison defeated Tracy Brooks with 60.3% of the vote.

Barrow County:

  • County Commission District 1: Incumbent Joe Goodman defeated Republican challenger Eric White with 71.8% of the vote. No Democrat qualified.
  • County Commission District 2: Kenny Shook defeated Kevin L. Jackson with 52.25% of the vote in the Republican primary. No Democrat qualified.
  • County Commission District 3: Incumbent Rolando Alvarez defeated Republican challenger Rich Reed. No Democrat qualified.
  • County Board of Education District 5: Jared Callaway defeated incumbent Lynn Stevens in the Republican primary. No Democrat qualified.
  • County Board of Education District 6: Darlene Carey defeated John David Godbout in the Republican primary. No Democrat qualified.
  • County Board of Education District 8 (At-Large): Renee Lord will face Brian Macnew in a Republican primary runoff. Lord received 44.1% of the vote with Macnew receiving 31.2%. No Democrat qualified.

Habersham County:

  • County Commission District 1: Kelly M. Woodall will face Eric Holbrooks in a Republican primary runoff. Incumbent Christopher Bruce Palmer finished third in the race. No Democrat qualified.
  • County Commission District 4: Incumbent Bruce Harkness defeated Republican challenger Wade Rhodes with 70% of the vote. No Democrat qualified.
  • County Commission District 5: Incumbent Ty Akins won the Republican primary with 58.3% of the vote over George Locke Arnold and Gisela "Gigi" McGugan. No Democrat qualified.
  • Board of Education District 1: Incumbent Douglas E. Westmoreland defeated Republican challenger Brett Barden with 55.6% of the vote. No Democrat qualified.
  • Board of Education District 2: Incumbent Robert Harold Barron defeated Republican challenger Ernie Garrett with 54.7% of the vote

White County:

  • County Commission Chair: Incumbent Travis C. Turner defeated Republican challenger Chris Dorsey with 68.8% of the vote. No Democrat qualified.
  • County Commission District 1: Roy "Shan" Ash III defeated incumbent Terry D. Goodger in the Republican primary with 52.6% of the vote. No Democrat qualified.
  • County Commissoin District 4: Incumbent Craig Bryant defeated Republican challenger Barry Vandiver with 53.1% of the vote. No Democrat qualified.
  • Sheriff: Incumbent Rick Kelley defeated Robert P. Morin with 86.6% of the vote.

Lumpkin County:

  • County Commission Chair: Incumbent Chris Dockery defeated Republican challenger Steve A. Shaw with 76.4% of the vote. No Democrat qualified.
  • County Commission District 2: Incumbent Bobby Mayfield won his Republican primary with 69.2% of the vote over Jeramy Nye and Matthew Cootware. No Democrat qualified.
  • Sheriff: Incumbent Stacy Jarrard defeated Republican challenger Matthew Cook. No Democrat qualified.
  • SPLOST vote: The Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax was approved with 71.5% of the vote.

Banks County:

  • County Commission Chair: Taylor Griffith defeated incumbent Charles Turk in the Republican primary with 64.8% of the vote. No Democrat qualified.
  • Board of Education Post 1: Incumbent Anthony Seabolt defeated Republican challenger Elizabeth Evans with 52.7% of the vote. No Democrat qualified.
  • Board of Education Post 2: William Reems defeated incumbent Wes Whitfield in the Republican primary with 53.7% of the vote. No Democrat qualified.
  • Board of Education Post 4: Tyler Maney defeated Allan Carlyle in the Republican primary with 61% of the vote. No Democrat qualified.
  • Probate Court Judge: Cameron D. Boswell defeated Stacey S. David with 55.5% of the vote.
