Hall County set to open new fire station near Buford

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

Almost a year after construction began on the project, Hall County Fire Rescue officials are set to hold a grand opening for their newest fire station near Buford.

Hall County Fire Station 17 is on Holiday Road just off Lanier Islands Parkway in the southwest corner of the county. Ground was broken on the site in May of 2023, and the grand opening ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 9 at noon.

“Fire Station 17 is an important addition to Hall County Fire Rescue and has been a well anticipated project for the growing south Hall area,” Hall County District 2 Commissioner Billy Powell said.

Officials say the goal of the station is to better serve the area in and around Lake Lanier Islands, as the station sits between the Hall-Gwinnett county line and Fire Station 8 on Gaines Ferry Road near Flowery Branch. New Hall County Fire Rescue Chief Jerry Smith said he's excited to get the station up and running.

“The strategic location will be essential for quick response to Lake Lanier, as well as many highly populated areas that our current stations already respond to from a further distance," Smith said.

The station was built on a $6.3 million budget, which was funded by SPLOST, impact fees and capital projects funding.
