A Nov. 26 porch piracy arrest in Gwinnett County led to additional felony charges for a Buford man.
The Gwinnett County Police Department reported Monday that officers received several complaints of package thefts at an apartment complex in the area Laurel Crossing Pkwy.
Kyle Thomas Witzel, 36, of Buford was named a suspect in the case after officers observed video footage of him allegedly stealing packages from the building’s community mail room where he was also a resident. Witzel was arrested without incident.
Officers then searched the suspect’s apartment to recover the stolen packages, which allegedly led to the discovery of large amounts of marijuana and anabolic steroids.
Witzel remains in the Gwinnett County Jail on charges of three counts of theft by taking, porch piracy, possession of a Schedule III controlled substance, possession of drug-related objects, and possession of marijuana more than one ounce.
The investigation is ongoing, with the possibility of additional charges pending, according to GCPD.
