Boys & Girls of Lanier celebrates new club in Buford

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier’s new Buford Club hosted a family event to celebrate the grand opening of their new club located at the First Baptist Church of Buford.

Representatives from the Buford City School System, Buford City Council members, BGCL’s Buford Advisory Committee, volunteers, and families came to celebrate. The Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce commemorated the event with a ribbon cutting.

The event included activities with bounce houses, face painting, snow cones, and other children’s activities. Attendees were also guided on tours of the Club space and had the opportunity to speak with staff and volunteers to learn more about how to get involved.

During the event, a short presentation was held with community leaders sharing the need for the new Buford Boys & Girls Club. Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier’s Chief Development Officer, Steven Mickens, said in a press release that the opening of a new club is exciting and that they can’t wait to ‘start changing the lives of kids in the Buford community.’

The new Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier Buford Club will provide after-school and summer programs for over 100 kids. The activities will be focused on academic success, good character and citizenship and healthy lifestyles. The club will serve youth in grades K-5 Monday-Friday, in the summer and after school. Summer Camp begins May 30.

First Baptist Church of Buford will be temporarily hosting the club space until a permanent facility is acquired.

The Buford 100 initiative has been established to fund the first year of the club programs. The first 100 people to donate $4700 or more will be recognized on permanent donor recognition signage at the new club. The cost to support one child for one year of Boys & Girls Clubs programs is $4,700.
