2024 is right around the corner, which also marks the return of the Lanier Canoe & Kayak Club's annual Polar Bear Plunge and Paddle.

The Jan. 1, 2024, event is the 26th annual edition of the event, which is held annually on New Year's Day at Lake Lanier Olympic Park in Gainesville.

Kim Martin, executive director of the club, said the event will feature fun for the whole family with a variety of activities.

A New Year's paddle will be held Monday beginning at 9 a.m., while the plunge will take place at 11 a.m. Plunge participants jump into Lake Lanier to ring in the new year.

Those interested in participating in the paddle or plunge can pay $30 to participate in one, or $40 to participate in both. Those interested in participating can sign up in advance by clicking here. Registration will also be available for walk-ups on the day of the event.

Aside from the paddle and plunge, Martin said a silent auction will also take place. It will feature 22 items in total.

Smores, hot chocolate and coffee will also be offered at the event.

All proceeds from the event go toward funding the Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club, which is a non-profit organization.
