FGN Week 5 wrap: Offense steals the show in multiple blowouts

By AccessWDUN Staff

Nearly every winning team Friday night scored four or more touchdowns, and only one of the area games was decided by single digits.

Gainesville and North Forsyth got off to strong starts in Region 8-6A to highlight a busy night in high school football action around Northeast Georgia. The Red Elephants routed Apalachee, 55-6, on the road, while North Forsyth prevailed in a defensive struggle over Jackson County, 14-3.

In Region 8-4A, Cherokee Bluff pulled away early for a 42-21 win over Chestatee to move to 2-0, while North Hall got its first win under coach Sean Pender in a 69-0 victory in Valhalla over East Hall.

In other action around the area, Banks County stayed unbeaten on the year with a 33-0 road win over George Walton Academy. Class 7A  No. 1 Buford also stayed perfect with an impressive 44-16 win over Carver-Atlanta, which was ranked fourth in Class 3A.

Rabun County improved to 4-0 with a 42-13 blowout win over Heard County. Lanier Christian was looking to stay undefeated against Calvary Christian in GAPPS competition, but the Lightning dropped a heartbreaker, 52-44, in overtime.

Flowery Branch ran into a hot Lambert squad in a 43-20 loss at home. East Forsyth took down Johnson 42-0 at The Dungeon. The loss was the 26th straight for the Knights to, unfortunately, set a new program record. Stephens County ran away from White County 53-14 at The Reservation.
