This time, there would be no rain to try and spoil a big night of high school football around the Northeast Georgia area Friday night.
Nearly a half-dozen teams stayed perfect on the season, with Banks County, Gainesville, Lanier Christian, and Lumpkin County all remaining unbeaten with big wins.
Lumpkin County is now 4-0 for the first time since 1988 after holding off Temple, 27-20, at The Burial Grounds. Gainesville moved to 4-0 for the first time since 2009 with a solid 43-20 win over Clarke Central at City Park.
Banks County moved to 3-0 on the season with a 43-6 blasting of Franklin County. Lanier Christian is 3-0 after a dominating 62-8 win over Rock Springs Christian.
Those weren’t the only headliners. Cherokee Bluff (1-2, 1-0 Region 8-4A) snapped its two-game losing streak to start the season with a tough 20-19 road victory over Madison County in the two teams’ region opener. Chestatee opened Region 8-4A play with a win, its first of the season, pulling away from East Hall in the second half for a 44-12 victory at War Eagle Stadium.
North Hall, however, could not get its first win of the season, falling to Walnut Grove, 38-20, at The Brickyard in those two teams' Region 8-4A openers. The Trojans fell to 0-3, 0-1 in Region 8-4A.
Central Gwinnett used a big fourth quarter to rally past Habersham Central, 28-14, in Mt. Airy.
In one of the best games of the night, Jefferson and Travis Noland fell short against his old team Oconee County, 9-7.
