DAHLONEGA, Ga. — Lumpkin County is 4-0 for the first time in nearly 40 years.

On Homecoming Friday night, the Indian offense started hot before the defense held on late to beat Temple, 27-20, at the Burial Grounds.

The Indians tallied 365 yards of total offense, nearly 200 of which came in the first quarter where Lumpkin jumped out to a 20-0 lead with 30 seconds left in the period. Mason Sullens started the scoring before Cooper Scott found Cal Faulkner for 45 yards and Caleb Norrell for nine yards to get the early advantage.

After Temple quickly answered with a 69-yard scamper from Cam Vaughn and an 8-yard rush from CJ Gray to bring the score to 20-12, Scott extended the lead with a 7-yard touchdown run. Temple scored late in the first half to get to 27-20 before both defenses held strong in the second half.

Scott finished 11-for-15 for 149 yards and a pair of touchdowns through the air. He also added 59 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Sullens had 151 yards on 22 carries.

Lumpkin is idle next week before opening Region 7-3A play against Pickens at home on September 23.
