MT. AIRY, Ga. — Central Gwinnett scored 21 fourth quarter points to rally past Habersham Central Friday night, 28-14 at Raider Stadium.
The Raiders (1-2) led 7-0 in the first quarter after a 10-yard touchdown run from Blandon Grizzle. It was tied 7-7 at halftime when Central Gwinnett’s Jason Jackson scored on an 18-yard scoring run in the second quarter.
Habersham Central led 14-7 at the end of the third quarter on a 1-yard touchdown run from Cooper Smith. But the Raiders couldn’t hold it.
The Black Knights (4-0) got a 42-yard touchdown pass from Makhi Cunningham to Jaiden Hill barely a minute into the final period to tie the game. Jackson scored on a pair of touchdown runs in the final 4:28 to give Central Gwinnett the lead for good.
Smith passed for 152 yards on 13-of-30 passing but also threw three big interceptions. Wide receiver Zeke Whittington had a huge game catching 12 balls for 151 yards for the Raiders.
The Black Knights did most of their damage on the ground piling 354 yards rushing on 50 attempts. Habersham Central was held to just 94 yards rushing for the game.
Habersham Central will travel to Forsyth Central next week.
