Gwinnett County Police released Sunday morning the name of the victim who was stabbed during a robbery attempt Friday morning at Macy's at the Mall of Georgia.
According to a press release from the agency, David Walker, 55, of Lawrenceville is expected to survive after suffering life-threatening injuries during the incident. Walker was an employee at the Macy's.
Both Walker and the suspect, Jose Reyes-Serrato, 27, of Loganville, are being treated for their injuries at a local hospital. The suspect is also expected to survive. Serrato was shot by police as he was trying to flee from the scene.
Serrato is accused of entering the Macy's story, smashing jewelry cases, taking items from those cases and stabbing Walker as Walker tried to intervene in the crime.

An employee at the Macy's store at the Mall of Georgia suffered life-threatening injuries after they were stabbed by a suspect Friday morning during a robbery attempt at the store.
According to a press release from the Gwinnett County Police Department, the suspect, Jose Reyes-Serrato, 27, of Loganville, was shot by police following the stabbing.
Officers responded to a robbery call at the store in Buford at 11:22 a.m. Reyes-Serrato allegedly entered Macy's and began smashing jewelry cases and taking jewelry. The store employee tried to intervene, but Reyes-Serrato stabbed the employee and fled from the store. Reyes-Serrato then got into a grey pickup truck.
One officer attempted to ram the vehicle to stop the suspect, but Reyes-Serrato continued to flee. The suspect then got out of the vehicle and fled on foot, at which point an officer fired his weapon, hitting Reyes-Serrato at least once.
The victim was hospitalized with severe injuries at last report. The suspect was hospitalized in stable condition.
"Our officers moved decisively to stop the suspect in that moment because this is a high traffic area and Reyes posed an immediate threat to the safety of the public," the release said.

The Gwinnett County Police Department said just before noon Friday they were investigating a stabbing and shooting at the Mall of Georgia in Buford.
Sgt. J.R. Richter said they were investigating the active incident at the Macy's store at the mall.
A victim was reportedly stabbed, and a suspect was shot. Information on what led to the incident and the condition of the two individuals had not been released as of 11:50 a.m. Friday.
