Girls basketball: West Hall hires Selman to take over girls program

OAKWOOD, Ga. — West Hall has hired Jacob Selman as its next girls basketball head coach, according to a release from athletic director David Wagner.

The school made the announcement Thursday morning. He replaces Shawana Harrison, who resigned earlier this month.

"I am very excited about the excitement and energy that coach Selman brings to the program and the school," Wagner said in a statement. "He is very passionate about the game of basketball and equally passionate about his classroom teaching. He is going to be a great addition to our athletic department."

Selman comes from Woodland High School where he was the boys coach for the last three seasons.

"When I was presented the opportunity to coach the West Hall Lady Spartans, I was thrilled," Selman said. "The decision to leave Woodland wasn’t easy, but I’m excited about this new challenge. Building relationships while coaching basketball is my passion. I can’t wait to meet the Lady Spartans and get to work."

Selman began his career at Marietta High School in 2010 where he served as an assistant boys basketball coach and head freshman coach. In 2013, Selman moved to Forsyth County where he was the lead varsity assistant and head JV coach under Brian Moon.

In 2019, Selman got his first head coach opportunity at Woodland-Bartow as head boys basketball coach.
