Girls basketball: Big region wins highlight busy night

OAKWOOD — No. 2-ranked Lumpkin County rolled to its eighth straight win with a 99-20 rout of West Hall in Region 7-3A action on the road on Friday night.
 
The win also helped Lumpkin County 10-3, 3-0 Region 7-3A) keep pace with White County as the only unbeaten teams in the region.
 
Averie Jones led Lumpkin County with 23 points. Isabel Davenport poured in 20 points, Lexi Pierce 16 points, and Mary Mullinax and Makenzie Caldwell each had 15 points for the Lady Indians.


DAWSON COUNTY 62,
CHEROKEE BLUFF 27

 
The Lady Tigers held Cherokee Bluff to just 8 first-half points in rolling to their first Region 7-3A win at home.
 
Dawson County (7-4, 1-2 Region 7-3A) led just 8-3 early on but outscored the Lady Bears (5-10, 1-4 Region 7-3A) 20-5 over the final 11 minutes of the first half to blow it open for a 28-8 halftime lead.
 
The Lady Tigers did not let up, extending their lead to 47-18 by the end of the third quarter.
 
Dawson County outrebounded the Lady Bears 30-21 for the game.
 
Kirklyn Porter led Dawson County with 19 points. Abby Slaton added 11 points for the Lady Tigers. Timber Gaither paced Cherokee Bluff with 7 points.


FLOWERY BRANCH 55,
MADISON COUNTY 54 OT

Shaina Kriews poured in 34 to help rally the Lady Falcons to a huge Region 8-4A win in overtime at home.

Flowery Branch (5-8, 3-1 Region 8-4A) trailed 11-10 after the first quarter but used a 14-9 second quarter to grab the halftime lead. The Lady Falcons maintained a slim 39-36 heading into the fourth quarter but Madison County (3-6, 0-2 Region 8-4A) held the Branch to just seven points over the final eight minutes to send the game to overtime.

In the overtime, the Lady Falcons outscored the Lady Red Raiders 9-8 to get the win.

Bella Brick scored 13 points for Flowery Branch.


EAST JACKSON 51,
OCONEE COUNTY 34

 
The Lady Eagles pulled away in the second half for the win in both teams’ Region 8-3A openers.
 
East Jackson (4-1, 1-0 Region 8-3A) was led by 17 points from Antonia Pittman. Maurissa Thomas added 10 points for the Lady Eagles.


BANKS COUNTY 58,
TOWNS COUNTY 32

 
The Lady Leopards stormed out to a big early lead en route to a none-region showdown for both teams.
 
Banks County (11-7) led 16-7 after the first quarter and exploded for an 18-8 run in the second quarter for a 34-15 advantage at halftime. The Lady Leopards kept the pressure on in the third quarter taking a 48-22 lead into the final period.
 
Kamryn Grier led Banks County with 20 points. Jenna Reeves added 16 points and Addison Hoard had 11 points for the Lady Leopards.


LANIER CHRISTIAN 54,
KILLIAN HILL 32

 
The Lady Lightning used a big first half to take the lead and cruise to a win on the road.
 
LCA opened the game with a 13-4 run and then took a 27-13 lead into the intermission. The two teams played to a standstill in the third quarter and the Lady Lightning outscored Killian Hill 15-11 down the stretch to put the game away.
 
Shyla Sheffield led LCA with 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Lexie Robertson led LCA with 10 points. Hollie Beussee added 8 points and Ashley Avery 7 points for the Lady Lightning.
