Girls basketball: West Hall beats Johnson, advances in Lanierland; Sat roundup

OAKWOOD — The West Hall girls basketball team accomplished two things on Saturday.

Their 37-19 victory over Johnson gave them a solid opening to the season and at the same time qualified them for the Lanierland Tournament next month.

It was a play-in game between the Nos. 8 and 9 seeds with the winner moving into the quarterfinal round.

The Lady Spartans will take on defending champion North Hall on Dec. 28 at North Hall. Throw-in is scheduled for 3 p.m.

Against Johnson, Riley Harkin paced West Hall with 10 points. Angelica Mallak and Adrianna Lipscomb each added 7 points for the Lady Spartans.

West Hall will be back in action on Dec. 1 at home against Monroe Area.


LANIER 66,
LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 31

The Lady Lions faced a tough opener in Class 6A Lanier, the 2019 state champions, Saturday night on the road.

Lanier jumped out to a big 38-17 lead at halftime and Lakeview (0-1) never recovered.

Junior Joelle Snyder led Lakeview with 9  points. Freshman Madi Loggins had 7 points for the Lady Lions..

Lakeview next will play in the Piedmont Classic on Tuesday and Wednesday in Demorest.
