Norcross man arrested in Gainesville marijuana trafficking case

A man from Norcross was arrested Friday in Hall County as part of a drug investigation on Dawsonville Highway.

Hall County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer B.J. Williams said Jose Mendoza-Gutierrez, 32, was charged with one count of marijuana trafficking.

Hall County Sheriff's Office investigators and agents with the Homeland Security Investigations Task Force conducted the investigation in the 2300 block of Dawsonville Highway.

Mendoza-Gutierrez allegedly visited a Gainesville home Friday afternoon and picked up a package that had a large amount of marijuana inside. He was arrested on Browns Bridge Road shortly after he picked up the package.

The package reportedly contained about 16 lbs. of marijuana intended for distribution in Gainesville. Williams said the marijuana was valued at about $40,000.

The FBI Safe Streets Task Force assisted in the arrest.
