Scott Gibbs to run for State Senate District 49

By Austin Eller News Director

Former Hall County Commissioner Scott Gibbs announced Monday plans to run for Georgia State Senate District 49.

Gibbs, a Republican, is the second person who has announced plans to run for the seat, following Hall County Commissioner Shelly Echols' announcement in May 2021. Gainesville Republican Butch Miller has held the seat since 2010, but he instead is running for Lieutenant Governor of Georgia in the 2022 election.

Gibbs is a Hall County native who graduated from Gainesville High School and the University of North Georgia, according to a press release. He served on the Hall County Commission, the Hall County Soil and Water Board and the Hall County 1996 Olympic Venue Committee.

At the time of writing, Gibbs served on the Georgia Department of Community Affairs Board and was appointed to that role by both Governor Nathan Deal and Governor Brian Kem.

“I’m more than just a conservative with strong Christian, family, and community values," Gibbs said in a prepared statement. "I have a passion to preserve our quality of life here in Hall County while planning for our future growth."

Gibbs owns Gibbs Grading and Utilities and lives in North Hall County with his wife, Jennifer, and son, David.
