Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville adds four surgical robots

By AccessWDUN Staff

Northeast Georgia Medical Center's Gainesville campus recently added four da Vinci 5 (dV5) surgical systems to improve patient care.

NGHS officials said NGMC Gainesville is now one of only two hospitals worldwide to have five or more dV5 robotic systems.

“We are proud that our surgeons have performed more than 700 procedures using a single dV5 at NGMC Gainesville since becoming the first hospital in Georgia to acquire the new robotic system last summer, which is more than any other hospital in the world during that time,” Parker Long, DO, OB/GYN with Northeast Georgia Physicians Group and medical director of robotic surgery at NGMC said. “That’s a testament to the hard work of our robotics teams who bring their best every day. Now, with four additional robots, more surgical patients can benefit from the newest and greatest technology.”

NGMC has a team of over 50 trained surgeons on its medical staff who have collectively performed more than 25,000 robotic procedures.

According to NGHS, the dV5 lets the surgeon stay fully in control. It turns their hand movements into smaller, more precise movements of tiny tools inside the patient. This allows for more accurate surgery, fewer complications, smaller scars and quicker recovery.

“We’re proud to offer state-of-the-art technologies to continue providing the same high-quality care to more patients than ever before,” Ron Lewis, MD, general surgeon with NGPG and medical director of perioperative services at NGMC, said.
