A half-dozen teams put themselves in position to win region titles after a crucial night around the Northeast Georgia area.
Gainesville and North Forsyth both took wins on Friday -- the Red Elephants holding off Shiloh 34-7 and the Raiders beating Habersham Central 24-14 -- to set up a showdown next week at City Park week for the Region 8-6A title.
Jefferson ran away from previously unbeaten Loganville, 42-6, at Memorial Stadium to remain the only unbeaten team in Region 8-5A. The Dragons are now in a position to win the region title if they win their final two games.
In Region 7-3A, Dawson County won its fifth straight game with a 17-7 win over Gilmer at home, while Lumpkin County snapped a five-game losing streak to White County with a 56-35 shootout win over the Warriors in Cleveland. The Tigers and the Indians now will meet next week in Dahlonega for the region title.
In Region 8-A Division 1, Rabun County blasted Athens Christian 52-7, while Elbert County took down Commerce 41-21 on the road. Commerce can force a three-way tie for the region's top spot with a win in Tiger next week.
