Region 7-3A continues to show that anything is up for grabs as the 2022 high school football season rolled through Week 8 on Friday.
Lumpkin County shook off its first loss of the season last week to outlast Gilmer, 31-28, in Ellijay to jump back into a tie for second place with Wesleyan and Gilmer. The Wolves beat White County, 22-17, in Cleveland. Meanwhile, Dawson County remained the only perfect team in 7-3A with a 27-0 win over Pickens.
In 8-4A, East Forsyth took a big win, holding off Cherokee Bluff, 14-7, in a defensive battle at Bronco Stadium. North Hall found themselves in a shootout against Madison County but ultimately fell, 33-24, at The Brickyard.
North Forsyth moved atop the Region 8-6A standings with a 21-7 win over Lanier. The Raiders jumped one-half game ahead of idle Gainesville.
Union County opened its Region 8-2A slate with a 42-7 road win over Banks County. East Jackson ran into a buzzsaw in Fellowship Christian, dropping a 30-14 decision in Commerce.
In other action, Class A Division 1 No. 3-ranked Rabun County remained unbeaten with a 17-14 over St. Francis, and Commerce held off a scrappy Social Circle squad, 24-21, on the road in overtime. Riverside Preparatory Academy opened its GIAA region schedule with a 56-0 loss to George Walton.
