CLEVELAND, Ga. — A back-and-forth affair went against White County Friday night as they fell to Wesleyan, 22-17.
The Warriors scored first with 8:06 left in the first on a 22-yard field goal from Hayden Vandergriff, but the Wolves answered four minutes later with a 37-yarder from Carlos Lopez that tied the game up at 3-3.
Wesleyan took their first lead of the contest with just under nine minutes left in the first half on a 3-yard rushing touchdown that was answered three minutes later by a 1-yard plunge from White County's Ryan Fowler to tie the game again at 10-10. The Wolves took a 13-10 lead into halftime after Lopez's second field goal of the night with 1:33 to go in the half.
Wesleyan stretched their lead out to 20-10 on an 8-yard touchdown catch by Trent Debour with 7:21 to go in the third, but White County responded to cut the lead down to 20-17 on the back of an 18-yard catch from Vondre Nelson with just under 10 minutes to play. The Warrior defense stood strong, but the Wolves forced a safety in the final minute to get to the final score.
The Warriors will travel to West Hall next week, looking for their first win in Region 7-3A.
