Dawsonville company fined for not getting proper fireworks permits

A North Georgia company that provides fireworks for special events is in a bit of trouble with the State Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner's Office.

Commissioner John King issued a statement Wednesday saying Bride Lights LLC, which is based in Dawsonville, failed to properly obtain permits for a fireworks show over the Memorial Day weekend.

"Bride Lights owner, Ty Smith, had initially contacted local authorities in mid-May for permission to host a fireworks display on May 29. When he was told that was not sufficient time to acquire the proper permits, Mr. Smith ceased communication with authorities and hosted the exhibition anyway," King said.

As a result, the company was fined $1,000. Additionally, the company was handed a cease and desist order for further illegal operations.

King says the violation should serve as an example to companies to make sure they have proper permits for any displays this Fourth of July weekend.

"With the Fourth of July holiday approaching this week, it is extremely important for any Georgian who wishes to host a public fireworks exhibition to receive approval from the proper authorities,” said King. “This is for both the health and safety of those hosting the display as well as those in attendance.”
