Gwinnett County Police offers safety tips and reminders for July 4th celebrations

By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter

The month of July has arrived and with it comes the tradition of Independence Day fireworks celebrations, both professionally and privately through many communities.

The Gwinnett County Police Department is reminding area residents through social media that there are several rules and regulations that come with using fireworks during the July 4th week:

• Please do not call 911 to report fireworks complaints. Fireworks are legal to use during evenings until 11:59 p.m. on July 3 and July 4.
• Never handle fireworks while impaired by drugs or alcohol.
• Do not give fireworks to a child, and keep children away from any fireworks area.  It is illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to purchase fireworks.
• If your celebration includes drinking, don’t drive. Designate a driver or use rideshare.

For non-emergencies, you are asked to call Gwinnett County Police at (770) 513-5700. Officials ask the public to please allow the 911 line to remain clear for emergency services only.
