Tips on safe fireworks celebrations for New Year's Eve

By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter
Gwinnett County Police advises residents to be safe and responsible when using fireworks Tuesday night. The use of fireworks is legal for county residents, but law enforcement strongly recommends following guidelines to safety through the evening.

A post by the GCPD lists suggestive tips as you celebrate:

• Please do not call 911 to report fireworks complaints. Fireworks are legal to use up until 1:00am on January 1.
• Never handle fireworks while impaired by drugs or alcohol.
• Do not give fireworks to a child and keep children away from any firework area.
• If your celebration includes drinking, don’t drive. Designate a driver or use rideshare.

For non-emergencies, call Gwinnett County Police at 770.513.5700.  Allow 911 to remain clear for emergency services only.
