Forsyth County's July 4th rules for fireworks and celebrations

By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter

The July 4th holiday week has arrived, and with that, arrives the urge for millions of Americans to celebrate Independence Day with a fireworks celebration.

Officials in Forsyth County are taking the time on social media to remind their local residents about the safety precautions you should take if using fireworks during the week.

It is illegal to operate fireworks within 100 yards of water or wastewater treatment plants, gas stations refineries or health care provisional buildings (hospitals, nursing homes). It is also illegal to set off fireworks near jails or prisons, and electric substations.

Anyone under the age of 18 is prohibited from purchasing fireworks, and it is illegal for anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs to use fireworks at any time.

Also, Forsyth officials say that it is legally allowed for adults over 18 to use fireworks on Wednesday, July 3 and Thursday, July during evening hours, up until 11:59 p.m.

If you have any further concerns or questions, contact the non-emergency extension with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office during business hours.
