Lula woman killed in Dawson County wreck

A 20-year-old Lula woman was killed and several others injured just after midnight Wednesday in a one-car crash in Dawson County, the Georgia State Patrol said

Alyssa Boger, a passenger in the back seat, was ejected from the vehicle in the crash. She was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center by Air Life, according to a state patrol news release. She died this morning at the hospital. A second backseat passenger, Stephen Caldwell, 21, was also ejected. He was taken by Air Life to Atlanta Wellstar Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.

Two other passengers -- Robert Petty, 25, of Dawsonville and Kaitlyn Head, 19, of Alto were transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center by ambulance. Both suffered minor injuries.

None of the passengers was wearing a seatbelt.

The driver, Zoe Starr Sowell, 21, of Dawsonville was traveling east on Grant Ford Road in a 2004 Mazda 6. While attempting to negotiate a curve at a high rate of speed, she lost control, ran off the road, struck several trees and overturned.

Sowell, who was wearing a seatbelt, suffered only minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

She has been charged with reckless driving, too fast for conditions, failure to maintain lane, DUI, serious injury by motor vehicles and first-degree vehicular homicide. The last two charges are felonies, the release said. She is held at the Dawson County Detention Center.
