The Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrested a Dawson County Sheriff’s deputy on charges of Distribution of a Schedule II Controlled Substance and of Violation of Oath of a Public Officer.

The GBI said it began investigating Ethan Blake Taffar, 34, of Dawsonville, on Mar. 25, following a report of potential misconduct by Taffar.

During the investigation, GBI agents found evidence of Taffar providing a schedule II drug to a person after his shift at the sheriff’s office.

Sheriff Jeff Johnson said in a statement that Taffar was placed on administrative leave after they received the report of misconduct on Mar. 21.

After an internal review, DCSO requested the GBI to investigate.

Termination proceedings began after Taffar turned himself into the Dawson County Detention Center on Apr. 11.

“We understand that news like this affects public trust and we want to ensure our community that we do not take this lightly. While the actions of one individual do not represent the values of our agency as a whole, we will continue working to uphold the highest standards our community expects and deserves,” the statement read.

The investigation is active, and anyone with information is encouraged to call the GBI Tipline at (800) 597-TIPS (8477), online at https://gbi.georgia.gov/submit-tips-online, or by downloading the See Something, Send Something mobile application. Anonymous tips are welcome.
