A non-native fish species that breathes air and can travel on land, found in a Gwinnett County pond recently, makes officials with the Department of Natural Resources nervous.
Officials say the asian fish known as the northern snakehead could cause ecological damage here in Georgia because it does not have any natural predators here.
It is long and thin with a dorsal fin running the length of it's back. It also can grow up to three feet long.
DNR officials asks any anglers who catch the fish to kill it, freeze it, document where it was caught, and notify DNR immediately.
It is illegal to own a northern snakehead fish in the state of Georgia without a wild animal license.
